Throughout the year, on Wednesday mornings, from 10:00 – 11:00 am, a Bible Study group is in session in O’Connell Hall. This group has been meeting for over thirty years with the specific tasks of reading all of the various books of the Bible.
Those who participate bring their own copy of the texts – using whatever translation is appropriate for them. As questions arise, the group does exegetical research to clarify certain passages that may need illumination.
Given the interfaith and ecumenical efforts of the parish community, some of the participants may not be Catholic. On occasion, friends of parishioners may drop in for a short while. Thus, the composition of the study group is intermittently varied and buttressed by a core group that sustains the sessions throughout the year.
The study group is structured such that a moderator guides the group during each session in the reading of a text and provides contextual remarks as well as contemporary commentary by exegetical scholars.
The environment is such that the only requirement for participation is to listen carefully and to offer questions in a respectful manner.
